Act Now: EPA is caving to California’s Gas Car Ban

Last year, the state of California asked President Biden for permission to move forward with banning sales of new gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2035. Just after Christmas, the Biden administration quietly opened a comment period to grant California this permission.

We are not going to sit on the sidelines while this happens. The stakes are too high.

What California is trying to do is against the law. The state does not have special authority to ban the traditional internal combustion engine and, by extension, liquid fuels.

  • California vehicle mandates and bans affect every one of us. The costs and consequences aren’t limited to just California. And for those of us who work in the U.S. energy sector, they will affect our jobs.
  • Just because California asked, doesn’t mean President Biden has to give in. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must uphold the letter of the law, but the Clean Air Act doesn’t permit California — or the federal government — to ban gas and diesel vehicles.
